The Azores are the Atlantic in its original form. Volcanic land, deep ocean, and the feeling of the edge of the world, where time slows down. We will see the islands from the sea and from the inside.

From the legendary marina of Horta to the vineyards of Pico, from the cliffs of São Jorge to the volcanoes of Terceira.

A busy week aboard a yacht in the Atlantic awaits you. Each day is a combination of sea crossings, nature, car trips, and discoveries that cannot be seen from the shore.

Route

You will pass through islands with incredibly different atmospheres:

Faial - the legendary marina of Horta, the caldera in the center of the island, and the Capelinhos volcano with its “lunar” landscape

São Jorge - a narrow island ridge, steep cliffs, and natural ocean pools

Terceira - historic Angra do Heroísmo, descent into the Algar do Carvão volcano, and lava coastlines

Pico - a volcanic island, UNESCO vineyards, and ocean horizons with views of Portugal's highest peak. Every day - a new island, a new landscape, and a new feeling of the Atlantic.

Fayal, Orta

The journey begins in the legendary marina of Orta,
a key stopping point for yachtsmen crossing the Atlantic.

Traditionally, crews leave bright drawings on the concrete walls
of the pier, as it is believed that this brings good luck and
a smooth voyage at sea.

Yacht reception, provisioning, and first
encounter with the Atlantic.

In the evening, a walk along the Orta waterfront and a gin and tonic at the iconic Peter Café Sport

Orta → São Jorge

A narrow island ridge with steep cliffs rising straight out of the Atlantic.

Its main feature is the fajãs: terraces with natural ocean pools.

It is the perfect island for road trips: winding roads, ocean views, and a slow, peaceful pace of life.

São Jorge → Terceira

Terceira is the historical heart of the Azores. It is home to Angra do Heroísmo, the most beautiful city in the archipelago, with its harbor, old streets, and the atmosphere of an Atlantic port that has welcomed ocean-going ships for centuries. Terceira combines volcanic nature, cultural heritage, and local traditions, which are especially noticeable in the summer months.

Terceira - a day on the island

We spend this day on land, discovering Terceira from the inside.

A car trip takes us to Algar do Carvão, a unique volcanic cave where you can descend into an extinct crater and see an underground lake and lava formations.

Next, we will enjoy the panoramic views of Serra do Cume overlooking green fields separated by stone walls, and travel to the coast of Biscoitos, where the ocean has formed natural pools in the solidified lava.

Here, you can swim or simply sit by the water, feeling the rhythm of the island.

08/07/2026 Wednesday

Terceira → Pico

Pico is an island dominated by Portugal's highest peak.

The island is famous for its unique vineyards, which are listed by UNESCO: the vines grow in stone “cells” right on the lava.

Small villages, the whaling museum in Lajes do Pico, wine cellars, and the coastline with views of Faial make Pico the perfect place for peaceful road trips and getting to know the Azores in depth.

Pico

Pico is an island where the entire space is dominated by a volcano.

Mount Pico sets the pace for the island and remains constantly in view.

Take a drive along the Criação Velha vineyards, where vines grow right in the lava, swim in the ocean, and stroll through Lajes do Pico.

For those who wish, there are local wine tastings or a relaxing day with views of Faial and the Atlantic.

10/07/2026 Friday

Pico → Faial

The final crossing of the strait between Pico and Faial is one of the best places in the Atlantic for whale and dolphin watching.

The island of Pico slowly disappears behind the stern, and Horta reappears ahead—a familiar harbor and the end point of the route.

Return to the base marina, return the yacht, and enjoy an evening with a sense of accomplishment, where each island has left its own story.
