Instead of a morning shower, we’ll take a dip straight from the yacht. Today we’re heading for the island of Kefalonia. Awaiting us is the island’s gem, the town of Assos. The permanent population is around 100 people. But there’s enough hospitality to go round!
Assos is made up of small houses with colourful facades lining the narrow streets. The whole town is surrounded by pine and cypress trees, whose scent mingles with the smell of the sea and the aromas from the local tavernas.
The main attraction is the Venetian palace standing on a rocky promontory. From the top of the castle, there is a stunning panoramic view of the bay and the neighbouring islands. It is the perfect place to watch the sunset and then have dinner at a local tavern serving fresh seafood.
After breakfast on board, we’ll set sail to enjoy
swimming to our heart’s content in the local coves.
If the winds are favorable, we may slightly alter our route
to visit another famous island—Zakynthos—and
see the Blue Caves and the famous
Navagio with the sunken smugglers’ ship.
We’ll dock in the harbor of the town of Sami, around which
there are numerous restaurants and shops where
you can buy nice souvenirs, groceries, and fresh fish.
A few kilometers from the harbor lies the famous
Melissani Cave. The cave’s dome collapsed over 4,000
years ago, and now you can take a boat ride on the lake,
admiring the play of light on the cave’s rocks.
Today we arrive on the island of Ithaca—the homeland
of Odysseus, a place where Greek myths come to life.
Ithaca is known for its beautiful natural scenery—green
hillsides, olive groves, and picturesque coves.
The entire island is filled with the scent of blooming flowers and
the sea breeze.
We recommend visiting one of the island’s most important
landmarks—the Loiza Cave, where ancient shells with
inscriptions were found, which prove the existence on Ithaca
of the cult of the ancient Greek goddesses Artemis, Hera,
and Athena.
The island’s capital is the cozy town of Vathi. It is famous
for its architecture, limited traffic, and picturesque waterfront.
This is where we will stay for the night.
In the morning, we set sail again. Our destination is Sivota, a small town on the island of Lefkada.
On the way, we’ll stop at the island of Atokos, famous for the wild boars that live on the shore of Greek Pig Beach.
Sivota is one of the most beautiful villages on the island, where you can see thousands of flowers, picturesque taverns, and a tiny port. The village’s houses are built around a well-protected bay, surrounded by incredible green hills. Some residents of Lefkada say that Sivota is blessed with all of nature’s gifts.
Today we return to our home port. We’ll sail through the strait between the islands of Lefkada and Kefalonia and stop for a swim against the backdrop of Lefkada’s majestic limestone cliffs, which contrast beautifully with the crystal-clear blue sea. We’ll return to our home port in Lefkada before sunset.
A farewell evening awaits us on board or at one of the local taverns.
